   Land Resource Committee  



 

The land resource committee is dedicated to acquiring land areas with inherent ecological value and protecting them in perpetuity through conservation easements.


Projects

 

  • Nancy Cooper Wetland: 109 acre tract in Spencer Co. which was originally about 40 acres woods and 69 acres cropland, has now been converted to shallow water areas and bottomland forest. Tract is protected in perpetuity by a conservation easement through US Dept. of Interior Fish & Wildlife Service.
  • Shawhan-Bennington Wetland: 56 acre tract in Daviess Co. which was originally cropland and some woods, enrolled in the USDA's Wetland Reserve Program(WRP). Land was deeded to Four Rivers RC&D as trustee, and has been restored to wetland habitat. Protected in perpetuity by easement under WRP.
  • Clem Frank Nature Preserve: A three acre woodland in Evansville (Vanderburgh Co.) deeded to Four Rivers RC&D and protected by conservation easement. The Preserve is managed by Western Terrace Neighborhood Association.
  • Eagle Slough Project: The Vanderburgh County SWCD partnered efforts with Four Rivers, The Nature Conservancy, Wesselman Woods, and other local organizations, in the acquisition of 127 acres, that will be used to educate & promote conservation. The State of Indiana, Department of Natural Resources, sold 2 tracts of land consisting of 73.9 acres to the SWCD, and a 52.99 acre tract that separated the states 2 tracts, was donated to Four Rivers RC&D, on behalf of the SWCD, by an Evansville, IN business owner. A public input meeting was held on March 13, 2008, to assist the planning & development of the newly acquired land.
